Last year was meant to be the final year of senior exemptions. However, the student handbook, printed over summer, stated seniors would still have exemptions. Administrators honored what the handbook said.
“Seniors better enjoy it this year,” associate principal Tamy Smalskas said. “Because they’re going away next year.”
Students are required to take longer tests at higher levels so the administration feels taking finals will prepare them better.
“Students need to know how to sit down for four hours to take an exam.” Smalskas said. “For example the SAT, ACT and even PSAT require you to sit down for hours to take a test. We are failing our kids.”
