As the students of the Royal Pride drumline know all too well, with great rhythm comes great back pain.
The drumline is hosting a T-shirt fundraiser to help raise money for new drum carriers. Order forms for the shirts, which cost $20, are available in the cafeteria during all lunches.
“We’re raising money for new carriers, an important piece of equipment we need,” senior drumline section leader Jordan Dunson said. “The carriers we have are not doing their job. They’re supposed to let you carry your drum with the least amount of stress and they are not at all completing that requirement.”
Tasked with carrying anywhere from 25 to 45 pound drums, functional carriers are essential to the drumline’s success during all performances.
“The result of a bad carrier is a lot of back pain and bad posture when you’re wearing the drum and after you take it off,” Jordan said. “It translates to us not playing and marching with precision.”
In preparation for the rest of football season and marching band season, the drumline looks to raise $1600 to replace their current carriers.
“Everyone should go out and buy the shirt to show support for your school,” Jordan said. “Help support the drumline and essentially the football team by helping us raise money to buy new carriers.”
