New drivers can earn their license by taking drivers’ education classes or being taught by their parents.
Many students choose drivers’ education because they don’t want to go through the stress of being parent taught.
“My dad always spazzes out on me,” freshman Melissa Adame said. “Even when I’m doing fine, he starts to freak out.”
Other students prefer to be taught by their parents on their own time instead of going to another class with its own schedule.
“My mom is really chill and drivers’ education is boring,” senior Pedro Ortiz said. “Drivers’ education doesn’t make enough of a difference for me to bother taking it.”
There are other factors that make students choose one way or the other.
“Drivers’ education is faster, because parent taught takes eight weeks before you get your permit and then you have to do 200 hours before you can take the test,” junior Katie Rowland said.
Others claim drivers’ education to be dull.
“You basically go inside and sit down and watch some boring movie,” sophomore Loreana Villalobos said. “And if you fall asleep, you don’t get credit.”
Students also have to consider the prices of drivers’ education classes versus being parent taught for free. They also must think about how paying for classes lowers the price of insurance once they get their license to drive.

I believe its only 20 hours, not 200.
