For junior Ben Johnson, the secret to keeping up with his busy schedule is balance. Ben has taken almost all AP classes including AP U.S. History, AP English 3 and AP Biology.
“I try my best to manage my time wisely,” Ben said. “I’ve found that getting into a pattern of when I do things like homework and practice helps a lot.”
Ben also plays the saxophone in the Royal Pride Band and participated in the All-State band as a freshman.
“I love playing music,” Ben said. “ Band takes a lot of time, but the feeling of giving a great performance makes up for it.”
While juggling AP classes and band, Ben also keeps busy as president of Club 2412 and a member of the UIL science team. Amidst all this, he has maintained his rank as third in his class.
“I also take piano lessons and am very involved in my church,” Ben said.
Although he will be a senior next year, Ben has no plans to take it easy.
“Next year, I actually plan on making it harder,” Ben said. “I’m going to be taking all AP classes while staying very active in Club 2412 and church. It’ll be interesting.”
As for his plans after high school, Ben hopes to study business at Texas A&M or The University of Texas.
“Sometimes, I think about taking the easy way out,” Ben said. “But then I realize that for all of my complaining, I actually like being challenged and forced to do my best.”
