Broadcasting and yearbook students attended a national convention in San Antonio for the Journalism Education Association and National Scholastic Press Association Nov. 15 – 18. In best of show competitions, MHS1 received third place, The Lion yearbook received second place and manestreamnews.com received third place. In addition, Shelby Tauber received second place reaction photo in the Picture of the Year contest and Dan Jarvis received fifth place in the multimedia Story of the Year contest from NSPA.

All students competed in on-site contests. Each entry was rated superior, excellent, honorable mention or no award. Out of 1,734 participants, 679 students placed. There were 117 total superiors, 209 excellents and 353 honorable mentions. Nineteen of those were from McKinney. Results are below. The next national convention will be April 25-28 in San Francisco.
