The city of McKinney was included under stage three of the Drought Contingency Plan at the recommendation of the North Texas Municipal Water District starting November 1.
The new drought guidelines require the McKinney populace to water once a week, if necessary. One infraction of drought guidelines constitutes a warning; the second offense is a $50 fine. If one continues to disregard the restrictions, the third offense will be $100. Any subsequent violation tolls $150 to those that infringed policy.
“The first offense is just a warning,” city of McKinney representative Anna Clark said, “Anything past that become fines.”
Regardless of drought conditions, McKinney limits residential watering to twice per week, as does stage one and two of the Drought Contingency Plan. Thus, neither of the previous two stages has brought serious concern to the city.
McKinney, along with twelve other cities, is supplied with water from the North Texas Municipal Water District. The NTMWD watches the water supply levels and puts cities into the Drought Plan when necessary.
“The main message we’re trying to get across,” Anna Clark said, “Is if you don’t need to water, don’t water at all.”
