Student Council will host MORP at the McKinney Sheraton Feb. 8 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. for all grade levels.
Tickets were sold during all lunches, starting at flash sale pricing of $30 Jan. 14. The price increased $10 each week. Final tickets will be available at the door for $70. The theme is “Dance the Night Away.”
“We do a slideshow presentation, all the groups will present [their theme] in front of the class,” senior student body president Emma Calhoun said. “The theme for this one is like a glamorous gala. It’s more like a shiny disco, not like a disco where it’s that type of dance. It’s just very nighttime themed.”
Teachers and administrators will check students in at the front doors.
“You have to have your fees paid,” junior student council historian Molly Perez said. “And your student ID with your ticket to enter.”
STUCO began planning MORP after Homecoming. On the day of the dance it will take around two hours in the morning to set up and thirty minutes to clean up after the dance.
“We have a pretty big STUCO, and we divide it up,” Emma said. “Seniors will set up in the morning because they don’t want to stay after the dance. Setting up is a lot. We have to wait for the DJ, and we have to wait for our balloon arch lady to arrive.”
MORP Court nominations opened Jan. 8 through a Google Form on the STUCO instagram. Voting for the winners will end Feb. 7 at noon. Students can vote through the QR Code on @mckinneystuco instagram.
“Anyone can be nominated,” Emma said. “It’s not as popular as Homecoming, obviously, because you guys don’t get to walk the field. But it’s still very popular because a lot of people usually show up to MORP.”
