Classes use iPads

iPad Story

DIM and graphic design classes are including school-purchased iPads in their curriculum.

The two classes are using them for picture tools and as a new way to learn material when they are in class.

“Technology is the future of learning,” CATE department chair Jason Braddy said. “We want to eventually use technology such as iPads for all learning aspects, such as textbooks.”

DIM and graphic design classes also take pictures, shoot videos, and do quick research with the iPads. Braddy has a goal for his students to eventually be able to shoot, edit, and upload an entire video through the iMovie program on the new technology.

“I think it’s pretty great for kids to have access of things right in front of them,” Braddy said. “They can really use it for their needs and it’s one-on-one.”

Students in DIM and graphic design classes enjoy the new learning technique.

“Kids think anything new is cool these days,” Braddy said. “The excitement will wane and eventually kids will get used to it.”

The future for technology usage in classes is expected to only increase and improve learning.

“Once the novelty wears off, the iPads will become useful and helpful tools in the student’s learning,” Braddy said.
