With football season nearing its end, that means the end of some things and the start of others such as lacrosse. Most people do not know, but McKinney has a lacrosse team.

Last season the McKinney Lacrosse team advanced to the quarterfinals. This year the teams hope are high and ready to go all the way this year.

Returning player, Junior Brooks Johnston feels confident about the young team.

“Last season was great but we lost some key players.” Brooks said. “ I’m still not worried cause we have a lot of upcoming players this year, lots of new faces.”

“We are part of division two, and play teams like Highland Park and Allen.” Johnston said. “We are one of the top teams in our district definitely.”

The team plays both a fall and a spring season.

“Spring is our main season and it’s the one that counts toward state and stuff” Johnston said. “But right now we are playing in like tournaments around the Dallas area and we are doing pretty well.”

Although the team has usually been an offensive team Brooks believes that this year, that will change.

“With all the new faces on the team I don’t think we will be as good as we have been in the past on offense.” Johnston said. “But I know we will be great on defense.”

This young team is confident for state this year, and Johnston says they have it in the bag if the team can do one thing.

“Yes we have state possibilities.” Brooks Johnston said. “As long as we find our play makers, our leaders, and mesh together as a team then we have a great chance at state.”
