Cottam’s Corner: How Quinton Quirrenbach won SportsDay HS’ Offensive Player of the Week

Zachary Cottam, Reporter

At the season opener last Friday, one reason the Lions beat JJ Pearce 55-35 was because of an outstanding performance from junior wide receiver Quinton Quirrenbach. After that, Adam Grosbard of The Dallas Morning News named Quinton Offensive Player of the Week.

Not only did Quinton win OPOTW, he also broke school records for touchdowns and receiving yards, tallying 4 and 276, respectively. Thus, Quinton accounted for 24 of McKinney’s 55 total points. Two of his six receptions were above 70 yards, showing off some insane speed. After Week 1, Quinton currently leads Texas 6A wide receivers in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. As soon as the ball was snapped, Quinton was ahead of the cornerbacks, and ended up almost 4 yards ahead each time the ball was thrown. Quinton runs a 4.49 forty-yard-dash, putting him as the fastest guy on the MHS football team, as well as a solid spot on the track and basketball teams.

Quinton was helped by 314 passing yards by Lions’ QB Damon Whitmer and 143 rushing yards from running back Matt Gadek. Another impressive performance by Tyson Wilson included 2 interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, and 5 tackles.

The McKinney Lions take on Keller High School this Thursday the 1st at Keller ISD Stadium at 7 pm.
