I really had a fantastic time in creative writing last year. It’s cool to see something that accurately reflects the same spirit of innovation, imagination, and community that made the whole experience so worthwhile. For anyone interested in taking the class, the overarching structure is intentionally designed to accommodate students with varying amounts of exposure to nonacademic writing, so prior knowledge of the subject matter isn’t strictly necessary. Ms. Allen is incredibly talented at fostering a sense of solidarity among students, while simultaneously acknowledging and encouraging an individual’s particular strengths. Discussions in class (particularly workshops) provide a unique opportunity for students to receive constructive feedback, and are a fun way to see what neighboring classmates have recently been working on.
