New album of the week-The London Sessions by Mary J. Blige

With contemporary R&B slowly dying out, you would expect that the quality of the music would start depleting as well. Mary J. Blige, however, proves that this is far from the case with her new album The London Sessions. With her light yet carrying vocals accompanied by a gracious amount of smooth instrumentals in the background, she sets a new bar for artists who wish to follow up this amazing album.

Song of the week- Lonely Hearts Club by Marina and The Diamonds

Electropop has always been a hit or miss in the music industry, but with Marina and The Diamonds’ song Lonely Hearts Club, one of the biggest hits of electropop came to be. Included in the Electra Heart album that was released in 2012, this song presents a joyous and dance-inducing background paired with amazing vocals carrying a slightly darker message. All adding up to a song for the ages.

New movie of the week-Inherent Vice

Coming out Dec. 12, Inherent Vice is threatened to be overshadowed by more advertised movies which would be a huge disappointment. With a mix of dark humor, quick wit and well used action sequences, this movie is one for the record books, but will likely be overshadowed by astronomical budgeted movies.

Netflix binge-Odd Thomas

With a plethora of movies and TV shows to try to choose from, most nights resort to going back to old favorites. This section is included yo give you a push towards new adventures, starting with Odd Thomas. Odd Thomas is an action sci-fi flick with plenty of suspense. With dark humor, plentiful action, and well placed plot twists that lead to one of the best movies to watch on a day off.

Movie you need to see-Interstellar

Released Nov. 5, Interstellar brings inception to further galaxies. With mind-bending ideas, complicated plot lines, intense action scenes and innumerous plot twists lead to this complicated movie. Though its hard to understand, perseverance will lead to an excellent reward of piecing together this masterpiece.

What to avoid-Exodus of Gods and Kings

Being one of the most advertised movies within the past few months, Exodus of Gods and Kings had a very high expectation for it to meet. Like most movies, it fell flat on its face. With a plot and movie pulled near straight out of the bible, it was not surprising that there was a lack luster response to it as a whole, especially its supposed terrible ending. This one belongs on the don’t bother list.

With Christmas coming faster than anybody expected, it’s that time of year when people reach for music to blare around the house. For the sakes of everybody within earshot of your music, try to follow these suggestions.

Do-Pentatonix

pentatonixA relatively new up comer to the Christmas music bonanza, Pentatonix delivers with their new album That’s Christmas To Me. With their fantastical remakes of well known Christmas carols, and reviving renditions of old classics that have neared the end of their run. Nonetheless, Pentatonix has created an album that is sure to become a holiday classic.

Don’t-Mariah Carey

MariahThough considered a classic in the carol collection, Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas has come to the end of its life. This 20 year old album gives off ample waves of cheer, but that’s about it. Its overplayed lyrics, exaggerated notes, boring progressions and lack of talent left from the sands of time are but a few things beginning to become a problem for this out dated album.
