My opinion of Super Bowl Sunday

In case any of you haven’t heard, there’s a game this weekend. No, I don’t mean the McKinney High vs. Allen basketball game, it’s something a little less important then that … the Super Bowl.

Although, much to my despair, the Patriots will not be playing in this super bowl, I have every intention of taking the chance to eat the food and perhaps take some money out of my dad’s pocket for an annual Super Bowl Sunday bet.
Now, in the Festa household, you know when it’s Super Bowl Sunday because there is a constant array of buffalo wings, chips and dip, nachos and just about any football food you can imagine. To be quite honest, after spending the past month on a diet to be sure I have the ideal winter-formal body for this Saturday night, I have every intention of gorging on just about every food my mom makes.

Now let me be real for a second. I would definitely say that I am looking forward to seeing Beyonce at the halftime show just as much as any male in this country. Year after year, the Super Bowl disappoints with the entertainment. Last year’s Madonnna display left me in disgust. And some bands the Super Bowl chooses aren’t exactly from my generation, so I couldn’t even tell you their greatest single. However, I love Beyonce as a performer and I really think she is a class act. I think this will be a performance that all the males can appreciate (for obvious reasons) and the females can love because she has a naturally amazing voice (unlike half of the singers in the world today).

I figured that since my team isn’t in the game, I would ask some Ravens and 49ers fans their opinion on the game this weekend:

“I’m so excited to finally see San Francisco in the super bowl,” McKinney senior Matt West said. “It has been way too long and I admire their quarterback (Colin Kaepernick). Plus I’m excited to go over to my buddies’ house and watch the game with all my friends.”

“I’m not a big football fan, but I have a lot of respect for (Ravens linebacker) Ray Lewis,” Lauren McGee said. “I would love to see him win as a great way to cap off his career.”

In case none of you knew this about me, I’m from New York. So basically, I’m a die-hard Yankee fan and that’s about it. I occasionally root for the Giants or Patriots, but I was raised to love baseball. I make very little room for any other team, no matter how far they make it.

However, I guess I’ll be rooting for the Baltimore Ravens. I really have a lot of respect for Lewis and think it would be great to see a class act finish his career with a Super Bowl championship. Either way, the sooner football season ends, the sooner baseball season starts!
